Three ideas

Painting, depth and time,
in one document

These three normally live in three applications, and something is lost at every hand-off between them.

01 — Paint

A stroke is a run of dabs

The engine stamps a tip along the path your pen travelled, reading pressure, tilt and azimuth at every one. Pack them tight and you have a pencil; fling them wide and you have a spray; give each one a different leaf and you have foliage.

The brush engine

02 — Place

The mark holds its ground

Drawings occupy scene space rather than stacking as flat cards. Orbit, and what you drew stays where you put it. Parallax is not an effect here — it is a consequence of the stroke having somewhere to be.

The viewport

03 — Animate

Cels and curves, one ruler

Frame-by-frame drawings hold until the next replaces them. Keyframed properties interpolate between them. Both live on the same timeline, and a single layer can be drawn by hand in one place and keyed in another.

The timeline

The workspace

Every dial, documented

Seventeen tools down one edge. The size and opacity you reach for most, always under your thumb. Panels that tear out and dock where you want them.

The manual covers 748 controls — each with its exact range and default, read from the source rather than described from memory.

In the beta build

Not a preview of a
future application

The beta is the whole thing. What it needs is hours on iPads that are not mine.

And what it is not

“No modelling from primitives, no retopology, no UV unwrapping. Ever.”

Alekhya is not a 3D modelling package and will not become one. Everything that becomes three-dimensional starts as something you drew — relief sculpted onto the surface you draw on, a solid spun from your own profile lines. The three dimensions exist to serve drawing; knowing where the edges are will save you time.

Ten minutes to a stroke you can walk around

Make a project, open a canvas, draw a line, orbit. Everything else in the application builds on that one gesture.
