Open beta · TestFlight

Draw on it before
anyone else does.

The beta is the whole application — every brush, the timeline, the 3D workspace, export. What it is missing is a few hundred hours on iPads that are not mine, drawing things I would not have drawn.

Getting in

Four steps, one of them optional

  1. 01

    Install TestFlight

Apple's beta app, free from the App Store. Every iOS beta anywhere goes through it, so you may already have it.

  2. 02

    Open the invite

Tap the invite link on the iPad you will draw on — not on a Mac or a phone. TestFlight opens, and Alekhya is one tap from there.

  3. 03

Draw a line and orbit it

New project, new shot, one stroke, then two fingers to orbit. Ten minutes with that gesture teaches more than the manual's first chapter.

  4. 04

    Send what you find

Report from inside the app — the sheet attaches your build, your iPad and your canvas automatically — or from the feedback page here.

Where the edges are

Worth pointing a pencil at

Use it for whatever you like — that is the point. But if you want to go where the ground is least walked on, it is here.

Drawing on a bent surface

Bend the drawing surface into a cylinder or a sphere and paint across the seam. Fills, erasing and selection all have to follow the ink onto a curve.

How it works

Frame-by-frame beside keyframes

Draw a cel, key a transform on the same layer, then scrub. Both live on one timeline and the interesting bugs live where they meet.

How it works

Long sessions and big shots

Many layers, many strokes, an hour of work. Autosave, undo depth and playback speed are what beta testing is really for.

How it works

Your own brushes

Build one in the brush maker, export it, import someone else's .abr. The engine has 51 brushes; yours is the 52nd.

How it works

The deal

What to expect from a beta

Said up front, so nothing about it is a surprise three weeks in.

  • Builds land often. Update in TestFlight before reporting something you saw last week.
  • Your work is yours. Shot files stay on your iPad unless you attach one to a report.
  • A beta build can lose work. Export anything you would be sad to lose.
  • Nothing here costs anything, and the beta will not start charging halfway through.

Found something? Say so.

Report from inside the app, or from here — the two land in the same place. Write to hello@alekhya.net if you would rather use email.
