3D Type

Extruding a text object into a solid with depth, bevel, and end caps, and reshaping it with the five non-destructive deforms.

A text object holds a volume description alongside its typography. Turning on Extrude to 3D sweeps the glyph outlines along the surface normal into a solid with front and back caps and a bevelled edge, built from the same live outlines the flat type is set from. The string, the font, and every character and paragraph setting remain editable while extruded.

Every row except the Extrude to 3D toggle is hidden while the toggle is off.

Extrude to 3DToggleOff

Builds the text as a solid instead of a flat outline. Reveals the rest of the section.

The extrusion distance along the surface normal.

BevelSlider0–400pt

The chamfer size at the edge between a cap and the side wall. 0 is a hard edge.

RoundSlider1–62

The number of subdivision rings in the bevel. 1 produces a single chamfer; higher values round the edge.

FrontToggleOn

Builds the front cap. Turning it off leaves the front open.

BackToggleOn

Builds the back cap.

Deform

Deforms reshape the built geometry without touching the outlines it was built from. Add one with the Add deform menu, which lists all five kinds. Each deform appears as a card carrying an enable toggle labelled with its name, a control to remove it, and one slider per parameter.

The stack is applied in order, top to bottom, and only where a card is enabled. Each deform recomputes the bounds it works against from the geometry handed to it, so reordering the stack changes the result. Nothing is baked: disabling or deleting a card returns the previous shape exactly.

Bend

Curves the text block about its centre. The block's width is mapped onto an arc subtending this angle, and the surface normals are rotated with it.

Taper

Scales the block's height and depth progressively from its left edge to its right edge, so the text narrows towards one end. Negative values reverse which end narrows.

Shear
Slant°Slider−60–6015

Slants the block horizontally by an amount that grows towards the top, producing an oblique.

Twist
Turn°Slider−360–36045

Rotates the cross-section progressively along the block's width, so the text corkscrews from its first character to its last. Normals are rotated to match.

Inflate

Displaces every vertex along its own normal, swelling the solid outwards.
